Glamour Pouch
PATTERN DETAILS
RELEASE DATE:
May 1992, Revised July 2001.
DESCRIPTION:
This is a small, round, drawstring bag. Make one for your
pearls or as an evening bag - or use as a gift container! The bag has a
square base made in reversible knitting and stockinette sides decorated
with bands of purl and slip stitches. This is a quick project; I can
usually make one in about four hours.
SIZE: The size
of the pouch varies depending on needle size and yarn chosen (example:
size 3 needles and fine yarn makes a pouch about 3x3x3 inches, size 7
needles and chenille yarn makes a pouch about 5x5x5 inches).
SKILL REQUIRED:
Intermediate,
you must be able to knit circularly with double point needles.
MATERIALS:
- YARN: Yardage
varies with the size of the yarn (the thicker the yarn, the more yards
you need). Try using a luxury yarn such as rayon ribbon, silk,
mercerized cotton, "eyelash", or chenille. Use one or two
(or more) colors.
- Main color – 100
yards is usually enough
- Contrast color –
(optional) 20 yards is probably more than enough
- NEEDLES: One set of double point
needles in a size appropriate for the chosen yarn. See gauge section.
If you choose a thick yarn, you might need long needles (9+ inches) or
a short circular needle.
- MISCELLANEOUS:
- Darning needle to weave in ends
- End of round stitch marker
- tape
- (optional) electric mixer
GAUGE:
The gauge will vary with the yarn you select, but select a needle that gives
you a firm stockinette fabric feel.
