MATERIALS:
-
YARN:
-
Sock yarn in
a weight designed to knit at about 28 stitches per 4 inches (10 cm) -
that’s what the ball band should say, but I knit them at 32 stitches
per 4 inches (10 cm). The yarn can be 100% wool or a sock yarn with
about 70-80% wool and 20-30% nylon. When using 50 gram skeins (about
215 yards/197 meters per skein) you’ll need 2 skeins for any of the
women’s sizes, while you might be able to make the smallest size with
1 skein, and the larger men’s sizes may require 3 skeins.
-
Reinforcing
thread for heels and toes (optional, but should be used with yarns
that aren't part nylon).
-
NEEDLES: One
set of U.S. Size 2 (2.5 mm) double point needles (set of 4 or 5
needles) or size to achieve gauge. If you know how, you can use two
circular needles or one 40-inch (100-cm) circular needle of this same
size..
-
MISCELLANEOUS:
End-of-row marker, 2 safety pin-type stitch markers,
flexible stitch holder such as waste yarn (optional), darning needle.
