KNITTING CLASSES AND LECTURE TOPICS

I have taught a variety of classes, ranging from 1 hour to weekend camps to multi-week evening classes.  And I have some new topics in mind that I would like to teach.  I'm also always open to suggestions for new class ideas.  Current class topics include the following: 

  • Beginning Knitting
    • Multi-week classes for children to adults
  • Circular Lace Knitting
    • half-day class on how to knit lace circularly on double-point needles
    • includes knitting my original design Lace Candle Sleeves
  • Classes on any of my knitting designs
    • 1-hour to half-day to multi-day hands-on classes on my designs.  The length of class depends on the patterns selected.
  • Design a Sweater to Knit from the Top Down
    • bring your own yarn and design a pullover sweater with custom size, neckline, sleeve, etc.
    • half-day to multi-day project
  • Designing and Knitting Containers (tote bags, etc.)
    • half-day demo and hands-on class of all kinds of containers

  • Designing Seamless 3-Dimensional Projects
    • learn to create your own 3-d projects -- toys, sculptures, hats, pouches, etc.
    • half- to multi-day demo, lecture, & hands-on class
  • Designing Projects Using Stitch Pattern Collections
    • learn to create a variety of projects using individual patterns found in stitch pattern collections
    • keynote lecture or half-day demo & hands-on class
  • Edgings Other than Ribbing 
    • half- to full-day hands-on class of 4-5 samples of edgings (some of my own design)
  • Garden Maze Garter Stitch Pouch (click on the title for find the pattern, or click on Future Designs to read a description of this technique, and see Ribbon Heart Afghan for a simple version of this technique)
    • full-day hands-on class of a project of my own design
  • Garden Maze Sweater Design
    • full-day hands-on class to design and knit a cardigan or pullover sweater for your teddy bear or doll.  Then use the information to knit one for yourself or another human being.
  • Garter Stitch:  It Isn't Just for Beginners Anymore 
    • half-day hands-on and demo class about the wonderful uses for garter stitch, both simple and complex versions
    • hands-on work will be on an original design for a diagonal garter stitch shawl with eyelet heart designs (click on Heart Garter Stitch Shawl for the pattern you'll receive in class)
  • Intarsia Knitting
    • day long or 2 3-hour classes to learn intarsia knitting by making a purse as a project (click on Intarsia Heart Purse for the pattern you'll receive in class)
  • Knit-Weaving (drawstring pouch sampler)
    •  half-day hands-on class of project of my own design
  • Knitting Lace for You and Your Home
    • 1-hour demo & lecture or half-day (or more) demo of a variety of lace shawls, tablecloths, doilies, garments, and edgings; & hands-on class of a lace bookmark (click on Lace Bookmark, and Beech Leaf Edging to see descriptions of the patterns you'll receive in class)
  • Knitting Shawls and Scarves (NEWEST CLASS)
    • half-day demo and hands-on knitting class on a variety of shawl and scarf styles, in all shapes and sizes
    • Begin a rectangular or triangular scarf or shawl on your choice of yarn and needles
    • Receive patterns for 9 basic rectangular and triangular shaped scarves/shawls
  • Knitting Socks (NEWEST CLASS)
    • half-day demo and hands-on knitting class on a variety of sock styles
    • Learn to knit a fitted sock by making a sample sock with all the details of a full-sized sock
    • Receive 2 free patterns - sample sock and pattern for fingering-weight fitted sock in all sizes
  • Knitting Tips & Hints
    • half-day demo and lecture

    • Learn the differences between mazes and labyrinths and knit one of your own
    • half- to full-day demo and lecture
  • Mitten Design Overview

    • half-day hands-on class on this technique, making a sampler project of my own design

    • half-day demo and hands-on class of Peruvian/Andean textile designs, both woven and knitted

    • 6-12 hour class or 5 evening sessions at least a week apart
  • Scarves for Beginners
    • half-day demo and hand-on class to learn to make several simple scarf designs
  • Southwestern Indian Color Patterns 
    • half- to full-day demo and hands-on class of ancient Four Corners Indian designs, from woven textile and rock art sources
    • knit a project of my own design (currently in design) with your choice of several designs
